Louisiana Territory
Purchased in 1803 from France which doubled the size of the United States. It was purchased to gain control of the Mississippi river and the Port of New Orleans so farmers can ship their crops out through the Port of New Orleans.

Purchased from Spain in 1819 by James Monroe.
The reason for purchase was that slaves were escaping into Spanish Florida and Plantation owners were wanting to retrieve them.
Also the U.S. wanted to stop Native American Attacks on Georgia.
