How to answer the final question from your Reading PP
- you know that 2 marks
"justify question" ?!?
2
the justify question in our MFL past paper
is not the same as English, but there is a cunning plan….
3
maximum marks for the question: 2 marks - so there are three options:
4
General advise from the marking scheme
for each of the three possibilities
5
So really a 2 points answer will contain
the main view of the text? positive / negative / balanced
justification 1
(justification 2)
6
and you will only get 1 mark if:
yes / no
justification 1 is a bit off
7
8
But how do we decide if overall the text shows a positive, negative, or balanced opinion of that topic?
when reading through the article for the first time: put plus or minus in the margin next to each paragraph
at the end count up the number of + or -
= that should give you the outcome
9
ATTENTION: a justification
cannot be a quote
cannot be in French/German
cannot be evidence that you’ve already mentioned in the translation or question answers
can give a line number and explain in English
10
so really while you are reading the text, you want to:
highlight the sections you’ve used as answers for the questions, so you know where is left to look
in time emergency:
focus on intro + conclusion
& quotes from people can also be useful
11
one example of unbalanced view (positive here) + justifications
The writer is positive about young people travelling & in the conclusion, they mention that the next adventure is around the corner
12
one example of a balanced view
the author takes a balanced view about the popularity of language learning
She writes that the Scottish government is investing in primary language learning.
However, she concludes on a negative saying that secondary pupils numbers continue to drop
