G5 T1 L3 Properties of Matter

Objective: I can teel how to measure mass and volume.

2

Do Now

1- The particles do not slide easily in the state of (solid / liquid/gas)

2- The particle moves very fast in the state of ( solid / liquid/gas)

3- How many elements in the gas carbon monoxide CO? ( 2 / 3 / 4)

4- Define organize.

3

Temperature

  • When the particles of an object move fast it will be high in temperature.

  • Temperature: To measure how fast the particles matter are moving.

4

How to measure temperature?

  • Temperature is measured either by Celsius or Fahrenheit

  • Look at the picture:

  • What is the temperature shown in the picture ?

Mass and Volume

6

Mass

  • Mass: The amount of matter in a substance.

  • To measure the massof an object, you have to compare it to a known mass.

  • If the balance is uneven, so the masses are different.

  • Measurement units are grams, kilograms, pound.

8

Volume:

The amount of space an object takes up.

Volum can be measured in milliliters.

G5 T1 L3 Properties of Matter

Objective: I can tell how to identify an object by it's color and texture.

11

Do Now

1- Mass can be measured by ( Kg / Celsius/ml)

2-Volume can be measured by ( grams / Fahrenheit/ ml)

3- The amount of space an object takes up, this best describes (mass /volume)

4- Define Temperature.

12

Color:

Color is a physical property of a matter.

it's an easy property to observe by just looking at the substance.

Texture and Hardness

You can test the texture of a substance by only touching it(smooth/lumpy/grooved/spongy).

Hardness is another property( if it's hard it tends to keep its shape when you push it or try to break it).

Look at the picture and answer in your notebook.

1- Which two substances have white color and also are powders?

2- One of these two doesn't dissolve in water, so what substance is it?

3- We can use Degree Celsius and Fahrenheit in measuring (volume/weight/temperature)
