Quadratic Features in Context
Let's make sure you understand key features within a context!

2
Context = a Situation
You know how to find key features, but let's make sure you can connect them back to the story!
3
Story "Codes"
"On the ground" means x-intercepts
"Starting height" is y-intercept
"Maximum height" is the y-value of vertex
"Time in air" is asking from x=0 to other x-intercept
"break even" means when you're making 0 profit but losing 0 money (x-axis!!)
4
Fill in the Blank
The path of the arc created by launching a t-shirt cannon is shown below. How many seconds does it take for the t-shirt to land on the ground?
5
Fill in the Blank
Using the path of Larry's head during a dive (graph the equation in Desmos), how long does it take for him to reach the deepest part of the dive?
6
Fill in the Blank
Using the path of Larry's head during a dive (graph the equation in Desmos), what is the deepest he travels?
7
Let's Identify ALL Features!
y-intercept (0, 7): he dives from 7 feet above the water
x-intercepts (1, 0) and (7, 0): times when he hits the water and gets back to the surface
vertex-min at (4, -9): lowest he travels is 9 feet underwater at 4 seconds
8
Multiple Choice
Follow the path of the golf ball hit on the moon. How many seconds does it take to reach its highest point?
0 seconds
8 seconds
45 seconds
15 seconds
9
Multiple Choice
Follow the path of the ball hit on Earth to determine the amount of time it takes to hit the ground.
0 seconds
7.5 meters
1.25 seconds
2.5 seconds
10
Fill in the Blank
Use the graph of profit for this bakery. How many times can they increase their prices until they break even?
11
Fill in the Blank
Use the graph of profit for this bakery. If they never increase the price, how much profit should they expect?
12
That's all, folks!
