How do we make the Present Continuous tense?

Affirmative/positive

I am reading a book.

Subject + to be + Ving + complement

Negative

We are not cooking.

Subject + to be + NOT + Ving + complement

Interrogative (yes/no)

Is she painting? Yes, she is/No, she isn't

To be + subject + Ving ?

Interrogative (wh-question)

Where is she going?

Wh-question + to be + subject + Ving?

The present continuous is used:

• to describe an action that is going on at this moment: You are using the Internet. You are studying English grammar.

• to describe an action or event in the future, which has already been planned or prepared: We're going on holiday tomorrow. I'm meeting my uncle tonight. Are they visiting you next year?

We only use the Present Continuous tense to talk about the future when we have planned to do something before we speak. We have already made a decision and a plan before speaking.

We're eating at Joe's Cafe tonight. We've already booked the table..
