Present Perfect + for and since , How long?

We use the present perfect with the words how long, forsince to talk about actions or situations that started in the past and still continue or are still true now.

We can use FOR, SINCE and HOW long? to ask about duration.

FOR

We use FOR + a period of time, e.g. for two weeksfor ten years, for ten days, for a few hours, etc. After the word FOR we say the lenght of time something lasted.

FOR +the duration of something +how long it lasted.

We´ve been here for a few hours.


I´ve been teaching FOR 3 years.

SINCE

We use SINCE with a point in time. It tell us when something began in the start time. We use since + a moment in the past (the beginning of a period of time), e.g. since I was born, since 10 o’clock, since last Wednesday, etc

SINCE + when something began- the start time.

She´s been teaching SINCE 2018.

I´ve worked there SINCE april.
