Two More M's (and an R)

2

You've heard about the 4 M's...

Mean, median, mode, and MAD.

3

There are two more "M's" in statistics.

  • Minimum

  • Maximum

4

The minimum:

The smallest value in a data set.

5

The maximum:

The largest value in a data set.

6

There's also an "R".

  • The "r" stands for "range".

  • The range is the distance between the minimum and the maximum.

  • Range is another way to measure how spread out a data set is.

  • A large range means the data is more spread out. A small range means it is more clustered together.
