What is a Factor?

• Factors are a set of all pairs of numbers that when multiplied together make a larger number.

• Example: Factors of 24

• 1 x 24

• 2 x 12

Methods to Find the Factors of a Number

• A list

• Rainbow method

• Array Model

Factor Rainbow

Start with the number x 1

Keep going until you start repeating

Take a look at the factors of 72

Table Method

Start with 1 x your number. Use the numbers: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 etc.

Think: What times __ will give me my number.

Example: Factor 100

1 x 100; 2 x 50; 4 x 25; 5 x 20; 10 x 10

Array Model

Think of all the different ways to write your number as an array.
