Reflexive verbs

• What are reflexive verbs?

  Reflexive verbs refer to an action that a person is doing to himself or herself. Examples in English are: ‘I wash myself.’

  
  

  Reflexive verbs are more frequent in German than in English.

Remember: If there is an accusative object in the sentence, the reflexive pronoun will be in Dative. RULE: THERE IS ONLY ONE ACCUSATIVE IN A SENTENCE.

Conjunction

• A conjunction is a “little word” that connects two clauses: “You’re so beautiful, when you wake up”.

• In German, a conjunction either “coordinates” two “equally important” clauses, or it “subordinates” one clause to the other.

• Subordinating conjunctions (weil, wenn, dass, wie, warum...) make the verb go to the end in the clause they introduce,

• while coordinating conjunctions (und, aber, oder...) leave the verb position unchanged (==> the verb will usually, but not always, be in position 2).
