Function Notation

• f(x) = 2x + 3, Find f(2)

• f(2) means you are replacing any x's with the number 2 and then evaluating

• 2(2)+3 f(2) = 7

• Always put parenthesis around the number you are subbing

• f(x) is the same thing as y

• Plug in each given value to solve for the missing one

• Evaluate for f(5)

• Find where the function has an x-value of 5

• The y-value of that point is your answer

• f(5)=2
