The Challenger Explosion

  •  The Challenger space shuttle exploded during take-off. This was televised.

  • President Ronald Reagan gave a speech on January 28, 1986 only a few hours after the explosion.

  • The shuttle take-off was widely watched because a teacher named Christa McAuliffe was on board. (she was going to be the 1st teacher in outer space.)
