HOW DO WE USE THEM?

We use possessives

to indicate ownership

RULES

• SINGULAR NOUNS: We add 's after the person or animal. For example: Tom's car - The cat's tail

• PLURAL NOUNS: We add only ' after the plural "s". For example: My parent's car

• NAMES/NOUNS ENDING IN "S": We add 's after the last "s". For example: Denis's brother

IMPORTANT!!!!

We use the apostrophe followed by s for living things such as people or animals, but we use of when we refer to things. For example: The roof of the house, NOT The house's roof
