Blessings and Woes

In this activity, you'll be interacting with Jesus' blessings (happy things) and woes (sad things). And you'll compare them to what society says are things that make people happy and sad.

First, let's consult the text of Luke 6.

  • These are the blessings (the things that make people happy.

  • Blessed (happy) are you who are poor

  • Blessed (happy) are you who are now hungry

  • Blessed (happy) are you who are now weeping

  • Blessed (happy) are you when people hate you

  • These are the woes (the things that make people unhappy).

  • woe to (sad are) you who are rich

  • woe to (sad are) you who are filled now

  • Woe to (sad are) you who laugh now

  • Woe to (sad are) you when all speak well of you

These things are the opposite of what society would say.

  • On the next slides, identify what society would say makes people happy (blessed).
