Eric Carle ( born June 25, 1929 in Syracuse, New York ) is an American children's author an illustrator. Carle has illustrated more than 70 books with some being best sellers. More than 102 million copies of his books have been sold world wide.

Carle's childhood

Born in Syracuse, New York, in 1929, Eric Carle moved with his parents Germany when he was 6 years old; he was educated there, and graduated from the prestigious art school, the Akademie der bildenden kunste, in Stuttgart. but his dream was always to return to America, the land of his happiest childhood memories.
