Possessive Pronouns

2
Possessive pronouns show possession or ownership. They take the place of possessive nouns.
Possessive pronouns change in form to indicate person, number, and gender.
3
The possessive pronouns are mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, and theirs.
Unlike possessive nouns, possessive pronouns DO NOT contain apostrophes.
Ex. These shoes are Liz’s. (possessive noun)
Ex. These shoes are hers. (possessive pronoun)
4
Sometimes, possessive adjectives are called “weak possessive pronouns.” They function much like possessive pronouns in that they show possession or ownership and require an antecedent to determine the correct form, but they don’t REPLACE the noun. They modify it like an adjective would.
The weak possessive pronouns are my, your, his, her, its, our, and their.
Ex. I said that’s my phone.
