Solving Linear Equations with BRACKETS

Solve
 $7\left(x+2\right)=2\left(2x+9\right)$  

What should we do first?

Step 1: Expand  $7\left(x+2\right)$  and  $2\left(2x+9\right)$

•  $7\left(x+2\right)=7x+2$  

•  $7\left(x+2\right)=7x+14$

•  $2\left(2x+9\right)=4x+11$  

Example 5(a) Solve
 $7\left(x+2\right)=2\left(2x+9\right)$  

 $7x+14=4x+18$

 $x=\frac{4}{3}$
