  • Japan is made up of a series of islands, called an Archipelago

  • Mountainous terrain- less land to farm and build on

  • Due to large population and small land mass, Japan has limited land for building

  • Japan is located along the Ring of Fire, making the islands prone to tectonic activity such as: Volcanoes, Earthquakes, and Tsunamis

  • In 2011, an earthquake caused a tsunami to hit Japan, and caused a level 7 nuclear meltdown
