Ballads

A ballad is a simple song or song-like poem with a refrain. It usually tells a story. Most likely a tragedy.

Narratives

A narrative is a poem that tells a story.

Epic

Epics are very long poems that focuses on a hero's journey to win or gain something.

Lyric

A lyric poem is usually short and it expresses feelings instead of telling a story.

Sonnet

A sonnet is a fourteen line poem that follows a strict form and rhyme scheme.

Ode

An ode is a lyric poem on a serious subject.

Elegy

An elegy is a poem that talks about someone that has died.
