Which of the following is a strong topic sentence that answers the question: What is the best video game system available right now?
"Nintendo Switch." - This just answers the question. It isn't a complete sentence, and it isn't specific! What about the Nintendo Switch?!
"Nintendo Switch because it is handheld and portable, but it can also be played on a TV." - This is a complete sentence and it gives a relevant reason, but it isn't specific! What about the Nintendo Switch? It doesn't restate, or flip, the question!
"Nintendo Switch is the best video game system available right now because it is handheld and portable, but it can also be played on a TV." - This one is the right answer because it is specific, it restated/flipped the question, and it has a reason that makes sense!
"Nintendo Switch is the best video game system available right now." - There is no reason! This one restates/flips the question, but it doesn't give us a reason!

Which of the following is a strong topic sentence that answers the question: Would you rather live in Ancient Greece or Ancient Egypt?
"I would rather live in Ancient Greece than Ancient Egypt." - This one is specific because it restated/flipped the question, but it doesn't have a reason! WHY?!?!?!
"Ancient Greece." - This isn't even a sentence! It isn't specific and it doesn't have a reason.
"I would rather live in Ancient Greece than Ancient Egypt because my back is itchy." - This one is specific (it restated/flipped the question), and it has a reason, but the reason doesn't make sense! What does my itchy back have to do with Ancient Greece?
"I would rather live in Ancient Greece than Ancient Egypt because it had more things to entertain people." This one is correct because it is specific (it flipped/restated the question) and it has a reason that makes sense! You may not agree with it, but that could be a reason why someone would want to live in Ancient Greece.

Which of the following is a strong topic sentence that answers the question: Would you rather live in Ancient Greece or Ancient Egypt?
"I would rather live in Ancient Egypt than Ancient Greece." - This one is specific because it restated the question, but it doesn't have a reason! WHY?!?!?!?!?!
"Ancient Egypt." - Do I have to explain this one again? THIS ISN'T A SENTENCE!!! YOU NEED A SENTENCE TO HAVE A TOPIC SENTENCE!!!
"I would rather live in Ancient Egypt than Ancient Greece because my feet are cold." - This one is specific (it restated/flipped the question), but the reason is NOT relevant! It doesn't make sense! What do cold feet have to do with Ancient Civilizations?!?! (My feet really are cold though...)
"I would rather live in Ancient Egypt than Ancient Greece because women were treated better there." Bingo! This one is correct because it is specific (it restated/flipped the question) AND it has a reason that makes sense!! You may not agree with it, but that could be a reason why someone would choose Ancient Egypt!
