The possessive determiner its occurs before a head noun and expresses possession or belonging.

  • They loved the film because of its humor and great acting.

The possessive determiner their is not only used for third person plural (they), but also to refer to a generic body or group of people expressed as a singular subject.

  • Everyone has their own abilities.

  • The US Congress is changing their strategy.
