Also known as Second Conditional

Present unreal and future unreal conditional

The second conditional describes situations which are Impossible, Untrue or imaginary.

Examples:

• If I were an animal, I would be a Red Panda.

• If people saw real dinosaurs, they would not believe it

• If I had free time, I would watch my favorite series more often

Grammar rules

1- Use the simple past tense in the if clause

Examples:

• If I had a million dollars

• If she were the president

• If he came in earlier

Use were for all the personal pronouns:

use Would+verb (base form) for the result clause

Examples

• If I had a dog, I would call him "Oddie"

• If Joe practiced more, he would speak english fluently

• If Sussy arrived earlier, she would be on time for the movie

Don't use a comma if the result clause is first

Examples

• Sussy would be on time for the movie if she arrived earlier

• Joe would speak english fluently if he practiced more

• I would donate money to a Charity if I won the lottery
