Example:

When defining a word in science, look for any prefixes, combining forms, and suffixes. "Hypochondriac" Hypo- is a prefix meaning below a set point or under in position; chondro- is a combining form meaning cartilage; and -iac is a suffix meaning pertaining to. So, pertaining to under cartilage is the full meaning of the word, hypochondriac.
