have, be, or do?

The verbs have, be and do can be both full (main) verbs and auxiliary (helping) verbs.

Full verb - have

• I have a Honda motorbike.

• She has three brothers.

• They didn't have any breakfast this morning.

• The hadn't arrived when we had the meeting.

Auxiliary verb have

• Have you seen the new James Bond movie?

• Before the weather changed I had had a great time.

• Has the cat been fed yet?

• 
  

Full verb be

• I am a teacher

• The weather was very hot yesterday.

• She isn't there right now.

Auxiliary verb - be

• She's working today.

• He wasn't using the right tool.

• They have been studying hard.

Full verb - do

• I did 40 km on my bike today.

• My brother never does any housework

• What did you do last night?

Auxiliary verb do

• Do you like action movies?

• When does the plane take off?

• How did you find the meal?

• They didn't visit England this year because of Covid 19.
