When life is sad...
God is good!
2
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted."
(Psalm 34:18)
3
Do you know the most amazing story of all time? Listen closely as we hear and recall what happened to Jesus and he lived, died, and lived again!
4
While Jesus lived here on Earth, his disciples - men who were his closest friends - were with him as he walked on water, healed people, and did many other miraculous things.
5
They saw him show love to all people. They were there at his last meal, when he said one of his disciples was going to betray him.
6
They heard him say he wasn't going to be around much longer and that they'd feel frightened, sad and empty. But, they also heard him say that when he came back, they'd be filled with so much joy that no one could ever take away from them.

8
And just like Jesus had told them, Judas, one of his disciples, did betray him. He came to where Jesus was when Jesus was praying and talking with his disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane.
9
He came with a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priest and elders of the people. Jesus' disciples saw the Roman soldiers surrounded Jesus with weapons and torches, arrest him, and take him away.

How did Judas betray Jesus? (not in the reading)
11
The disciples were frightened and surprised when this happened. Jesus loved everyone! He had never done anything wrong. Not once! And yet, he was being treated as a criminal.
12
The disciples' hearts were filled with sadness. And things got worse. Jesus was rejected and falsely accused by the Jewish leaders; he was tortured; he was unjustly condemned to death. Finally, Jesus was crucified.
13
Jesus didn't deserve to suffer like that. But he willingly did so to pay for the sins of the world. Jesus willingly took the place of all sinners so that everyone could have forgiveness and eternal life.
14
After Jesus died, the disciples wrapped Jesus' body in cloths and laid him in a tone tomb. For three days, the disciples stayed hidden. They were afraid they would be arrested too. They felt lost and sad and empty.

"After Jesus died, the disciples wrapped Jesus' body in cloths and laid him in a stone tomb." (pp. 6)
What in Jesus' life is this a mirror of?
16
Then three days after Jesus died, on Sunday morning, something amazing happened. The third day after his burial, Jesus rose from the dead and came out of the grave. Early that Sunday morning, some of the disciples went to the tomb.
17
They found the heavy stone at the entrance had been rolled away. The tomb was empty - Jesus wasn't there!
18
Two angels wearing dazzling robes suddenly appeared. They said "Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? He isn't here! He is risen from the dead!" Jesus was alive! And he is alive today!

Jesus took the punishment for all our sins. Without Jesus, we'd have to carry the weight of all our filthy, heavy sins. We'd be separated from God.
21
But because Jesus loves us so much, He took the punishment for our sins so we don't have to carry them anymore. We are forgiven and loved by God. God is so good!
