Changes to land-based ecosystems probably don’t affect blue crabs.
Conditions in the Chesapeake Bay are relatively stable year-to-year.
The rate of forest buffer restoration has been consistent from 1996 to 2016.
Increases in SAV acreage from 2007 to 2017 may be related to the increases in blue crab population during the same period.

Multiple Choice
True or False: Increases in wetlands, forest buffers, and SAV will result in increases in the blue crab population and other fisheries over time.

LC3 Assessment Information Summary
The Conowingo Dam is a major source of electricity for parts of Maryland. It is a renewable and clean energy source.
The American Eel is an important for the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem because it is a major food source for many native species. In other countries this eel is highly sought after, and there is a commercial harvest for the eel in the Chesapeake Bay.
The eel is threatened by this harvesting and habitat destruction/fragmentation caused by the Conowingo Dam. Some people call for removal of the dam to improve the American Eel populations.
