a. Usage - Cách sử dụng

Trong câu hỏi đuôi, người đặt câu hỏi đưa ra một mệnh đề (mệnh đề chính) nhưng không hoàn toàn chắc chắn về tính đúng/ sai của mệnh đề đó, do vậy họ dùng câu hỏi dạng tag question để kiểm chứng về mệnh đề đưa ra.

Ví dụ:

           It’s raining now, isn’t it?

           Trời đang mưa, phải không?

           You won’t be lazy, will you?

           Bọn sẽ không lười biếng, phải không?

b. Forming tag question (Cách thành lập dạng câu hỏi đuôi)

Ta áp dụng những quy tắc sau để tạo câu hỏi đuôi.

           - Sử dụng trợ động từ giống như ở mệnh đề chính để làm phần đuôi câu hỏi.

eg: You won’t be lazy, will you?

b. Forming tag question (Cách thành lập dạng câu hỏi đuôi)

Ta áp dụng những quy tắc sau để tạo câu hỏi đuôi.

           - Sử dụng trợ động từ giống như ở mệnh đề chính để làm phần đuôi câu hỏi.

eg: There are only twenty eight days in February, aren’t there?

b. Forming tag question (Cách thành lập dạng câu hỏi đuôi)

Ta áp dụng những quy tắc sau để tạo câu hỏi đuôi.

            - Nếu mệnh đề chính không có trợ động từ thì dùng do, does, did để thay thế.

eg: Mary and John go to visit their parents once a month, don’t they?

Ta áp dụng những quy tắc sau để tạo câu hỏi đuôi.

          - Nếu mệnh đề chính ở thể khẳng định thì phần đuôi ở thể phủ định, và ngược lại.

eg: Mary and John go to visit their parents once a month, don’t they?

      He isn't doing his homework, is he?

b. Forming tag question (Cách thành lập dạng câu hỏi đuôi)

Ta áp dụng những quy tắc sau để tạo câu hỏi đuôi.

          -  Thì của động từ ở đuôi phải theo thì của động từ ở mệnh đề chính.

eg: Mary and John go to visit their parents once a month, don’t they? => Present simple.

      He isn't doing his homework, is he? => Present simple with to be.

b. Forming tag question (Cách thành lập dạng câu hỏi đuôi)

Ta áp dụng những quy tắc sau để tạo câu hỏi đuôi.

          -  Chủ ngữ của mệnh đề chính và của phần đuôi là giống nhau. Đại từ ở phần đuôi luôn phải để ở dạng chủ ngữ.

eg: Mary and John go to visit their parents once a month, don’t they? 

      He isn't doing his homework, is he?

Ta áp dụng những quy tắc sau để tạo câu hỏi đuôi.

      - Phần đuôi nếu ở dạng phủ định thì thường được rút gọn (n’t). Nếu không rút gọn thì phải theo thứ tự: auxiliary + subject + not? (Trợ động từ + chủ ngữ + not?

eg: Mary and John go to visit their parents once a month, don’t they? 

      He is doing his homework, isn't he?

Ta áp dụng những quy tắc sau để tạo câu hỏi đuôi.

      - There is, there are và it is là các chủ ngữ giả nên phần đuôi được phép dùng lại there hoặc it giống như trường hợp đại từ làm chủ ngữ.

eg: There are only twenty eight days in February, aren’t there?

      It is raining, isn't it?

Note

Khi chủ ngữ và động từ của mệnh đề trần thuật là “I am”, thì phần láy đuôi có dạng phủ định viết tắt là: “aren't I” do “am not” không có dạng viết tắt.
