For things that happen regularly

Present Simple

The structure of Present Simple is quite easy:

Person + verb 1st form (affirmative)

Person + don't/doesn't + verb 1st form (negative)

Do/ does + person + verb 1st form (interrogative)

Examples:

• They like pasta.

• They don't like pasta.

• Do they like pasta?

• He likes pasta.

• He doesn't like pasta.

• Does he like pasta?

NOTE!

When we use he, she, it or a singular noun, the verb gets an "s"

He likes pasta.

She likes pasta.

It likes pasta.

The teacher likes pasta.

Present Continuous

For things that are temporary

Present Continuous

The structure of Present Continuous is this:

Person + am/ are/ is + verbING (affirmative)

Person + am not/ aren't/ isn't + verbING (negative)

Am/ are/ is + person + verbING (interrogative)

Examples:

• You are studying English at the moment.

• You aren't studying English at the moment.

• Are you studying English at the moment?

• She is working now.

• She isn't working now.

• Is she working now?

NOTE!

In Present Continuous am, are, is will be our "carrinhos"

We don't use do and does!

NOTE! (2)

Sometimes a sentence will have am/are/is but it will not be Present Continuous

He is a nice guy. - Present Simple

He is talking to a nice guy - Present Continuous
