How to form a present continuous

RULE 1: Singular Verb to be

• I am

• He is

• She is

• It is

RULE 2: Plural Verb to be

• You are

• We are

• They are

RULE 3 Present continuous in positive form: 'to be' + verb + ing

I am working late.

It is raining.

She is watching television.

You are walking to school.

We are singing a song.

RULE 4 Present continuous in negative form: 'to be' + not + verb + ing

I am not working late.

She is not watching television.

You are not walking to school.

We are not singing a song.

SPELLING RULES

RULE 1: Verb ending with an 'e'

Drop the 'e'

make = I am making a kite.

take = He is taking some photos.

drive = Father is driving home.

RULE 2: One syllable verb ending in a vowel + a consonant

Double the consonant

sit = I am sitting in the class.

get = It is getting late.

swim = They are swimming in the river.
