Me gusta

  • When you want to describe something "you like" then you use the phrase "me gusta"

  • Example: Me gusta la clase de geometría.

  • I like geometry class.

Te gusta

  • Normally, you would expect it to say "te gustas" with an "s", but when we are talking about "you" (informally), then it would be "te gusta"

  • Example: Te gusta tu casa.

  • I like your house.

Le gusta

  • Le gusta can stand for either "él" or "ella". If you want to say "He/She likes" you would say "Le gusta"

  • Example: Le gusta leer.

  • He (She) likes to read.

  • Words have two parts to them. The base word and the suffix.

  • Example: Hablar

  • Base word: Habl

  • Suffix: -ar

  • Once figure out the base word, you change the suffix depending on who is talking

  • Example: I talk

  • Base word: Habl

  • Suffix: -o

Being more specific

  • When using "me gusta", "te gusta" and "le gusta", you can be more specific by adding three things:

  • Me gusta: you can add "a mi" (a mi me gusta bailar)

  • Te gusta: you can add "a ti" ( a ti te gusta cantar)

  • Le gusta: you can add "a el" or "a ella"; this helps specify if you are talking about a man or woman.

  • When you want to talk about something specifically, you can use their "a + their name"

  • Example: A pedro le gusta leer

  • Lastly, when trying to say "you DO NOT like" something, you would add "no" before the verb

  • Example: No me gusta leer

  • I do not like to read.

Yo necesito

  • When you want to describe something "you need" you use "yo necesito"

  • Example: yo necesito mi ropa

  • I need my clothes.

Tú necesitas

  • When you want to describe something for "you (formally)" you use "tú necesitas"

  • Example: Tú necesitas limpiar tu cuarto

  • You need to clean your room.

  • When you want to describe something "he/she needs" you use "él/ella necesita"

  • Example: Ella necesitas bailar.

  • She needs to dance
