Important points (Take out your notepad/book)

  • Computer memory is divided into 2 parts- Primary and secondary memory.

  • Primary memory also has 2 parts, RAM & ROM.

  • The data stored in RAM is stored temporarily and when we turn off the computer, the data is removed.

  • The data stored in ROM is stored permanently, even when we turn off the computer, it is not removed.

  • RAM is Random Access Memory & is also know as volatile memory.

  • ROM is Read Only Memory & i also known as non-volatile memory.

NTU slide (Need to understand)

When we need to recite a poem, we need to learn it, but what does learning mean? It not only say to read or hear about knowledge, but also says to read or hear about knowledge, AND STORE IT IN YOUR MEMORY. Similarly, a computer also stores the data we enter into it. Lets talk about the Hard Disk in the next slide.

4

Hard Disk

Hard Disk is the biggest unit of storage. Hard Disk was invented in June 1956. Informed by Jacob Rabinow's ideas at NBS, IBM developed and shipped the first commercial Hard Disk Drive (HDD), the Model 350 disk storage unit, to Zellerbach Paper, San Francisco in June 1956 as part of the IBM 305 RAMAC (Random Access Method of Accounting and Control) system. Also, the first hard disk was invented with a storage capacity of 5 MB.

5

Bytes

A byte is a unit of reading the computer memory. When we write MB, GB, TB, what does the B after every letter mean? It is called Byte. Byte is also written as B.

Bytes-2

1 KB= 1024 B

1 MB= 1024 KB

1 GB= 1024 MB

1 TB=1024 GB

1 PB=1024 TB

1 EB= 1024 PB

1 ZB= 1024 EB
