1

Rotations

A type of transformation that takes each point in a figure and rotates (Turns/Spins) it a certain number of degrees around a given point

2

Rotations in the real world.

An example of rotation would be looking at a clock. This is an example of rotation because the clock hands rotate in a clockwise motion around a single, fixed point.

Which word can be used to describe a rotation?

1

Flip

2

Turn

4

4

Movement

Rotations are defined by the way they turn. One way they turn is described in two directions Clockwise (CW) or Counterclockwise (CCW).

5

Movement 2

Rotations are also measured by the distance they turn around a circle. This is measured in degrees. A full circle is 360 degrees.

6

Congruent Figures

Rotations change the orientation of a figure, but the object remains the same size and shape (congruent).

We also refer to this as a Rigid Transformation.
