Synthesizing... some steps to consider.

  • when reading several sources, identify what the main topic is.. also check for main ideas

  • decide how to present the topic

  • organize your ideas... draw an outline

  • underline key ideas from each sources, identify if these support each other, if they are against each other, if they expand on the topic, etc.

  • Start writing! state your idea (much like a topic sentence) and add the other sources info (quotations or paraphrasing)

  • these sources should serve to strengthen your view of something, use the sources to your advantage.
