• Wood is a material that comes from trees.

• Examples of objects made of wood: chairs, tables, doors.​

• Examples of metals: iron, steel and aluminium.

• Examples of objects made of metal: iron nail, tin can, spoon.

​• Glass is a transparent material, made from sand (silica).

• Examples of objects made of glass: bottles, windows, vases.

​GLASS

​• Plastics are man-made materials, made using oil from deep underground.

• Examples of objects using plastic: shopping bags, cups, toys.

​PLASTIC

​• Rubber is made using the sap or latex from rubber trees.

• Examples of objects made of rubber: tyres, hoses, balloons.

​• Fabrics are thin and flexible materials.

• Examples of objects made of fabric: clothes, curtains

CERAMIC

• Ceramic is a material made from clay.

• Examples of objects made of ceramic: pots, cups, vases.​

​- Metals are good conductors of heat.

- Wood, ceramic and plastic are poor conductors of heat.

- Magnetic materials are materials that are attracted by a magnet.

​Strength is how much a material can be pulled apart or pressed together without breakin

​g. Hardness

Hardness is how much a material can be scratched or dented.​

h. Flexibility​

Flexibility is how much a material can be bent without breaking.​

​i. Floating or Sinking

​• Float: stays on top of water

• Sink: falls to the bottom of water

​Solubility

• Soluble: substances that dissolve in water

• Insoluble: substances that do not dissolve in water​
