​The very youngest age in the UK school system

Children can go to school from the age of 4 in the UK. The level is called reception and lasts for just 1 year until the age of 5.

​The second level of learning in the UK

From the age of five until they are seven, pupils go to Infant school. Here they learn how to read, write and count as well as how to socialise with their fellow pupils.

​The third level of learning in the UK

From seven until eleven, students go to Junior school. This is called Primary Education. Here apart from improving their reading, writing and counting, they learn the basics of other subjects likes history, geograhpy and sciences.

​The fourth level of learning in the UK

At the age of eleven UK students move to the senior school , or Secondary Education. They will stay here for 5 years until they are sixteen. For the 1st two years they study a wide range of subjects as well as the core basics of Maths, English and Science

​Final two years of Secondary Education

The age of fourteen is a very important year for UK students. They study to take tests in the key subjects of Maths and English and decide which subjects they will focus on for the final exams. Two years later they take these final exams, called GCSEs (ОГЭ in Russia) when they are sixteen.

​University Preparation or Further Education

From 16 to 18, students study to take A levels (ЕГЭ in Russia) in three of four subjects. Maths and English are not necessary. Students have to pass well to get into university. If they don't want to go to be an undergraduate at university, then they can go to a college of Further Education, to study vocational subjects to beame a hairdresser or electrician for example.
