What is a hierarchical society?
A hierarchy is a system of organizing people into different ranks or levels of importance, for example in society or in a company.

What was society like in the early days of Ecuador?
In 1830 Ecuador had a social structure based on hierarchies.
He had inherited this type of organization from the colonial period from ethnic and economic aspects, in this society four main groups could be distinguished:

Spanish people
Formation: They were Spaniards born in Spain.
Activities: They held higher positions.
Characteristics: They were the highest authority and held the most important public positions in society, in addition to imposing their religion and customs on the entire conquered American population.
They forced the Indigenous and Afro-descendants to hard work.

Creoles
Formation: The Creoles are inhabitants born in America of European parents or of European origin.
Activities: highest positions.
Characteristics: They had wealth, power and had great social prestige. These sectors used the forced labor of indigenous people and slaves.

Mestizos
Formation: People born of a Spanish and an indigenous
Activities: construction worker, Carpenters. artisans. Peons.
Characteristics:It was the sector with the highest population growth according to their individual reality.
They had certain privileges and limitations, Sometimes they were taken as Spaniards and others as indigenous, depending on their predominant physique. They were forbidden: Being caciques. Be soldiers. Exercise public or ecclesiastical office.

Formation: Also known as indigenous peoples, aboriginal peoples or native peoples, they are ethnic groups that are the original inhabitants of a certain region
Activities: they worked as laborers in the haciendas, mines, and obrajes.
Characteristics: They were forced to live in entrusted towns or around Spanish cities, they were subjected to the payment of taxes, they had no privileges.

African slaves - African Americans
Formation: people of African descent who had been born in the American colonies.
Activities: their tasks ranged from working in the fields to housework. cook and work the land,
Characteristics: they were brought as slaves from Africa and in inhuman conditions, many died during the boat trip. They were sold in the market the same as with pack animals. slaves were those who had the fewest rights. The slaves did not enjoy any kind of freedom.
