Plastics
Types (depending on arrangement of units)
Linear
Cross - linked
4
Categories
Thermoplastic - which can be melted easily, deformed on heating. Ex- PVC, Polyethene
Thermosetting - which cannot bend easily, not deformed on heating. Ex- Bakelite, Melamine.
5
Advantages of Plastics
Available in different shapes
Durable and long lasting
Fire resistant
Non - reactive
Light in weight
Cheap
Good strength
Available in - opaque, transparent and translucent
Does not get corroded
Easy to handle
6
Disadvantages of Plastics
Disposal - Most of the plastics are non - biodegradable and lead to accumulation
Animals are choked due to consumption of plastics. (Land pollution)
They choke drainage systems which lead to floods
They produce harmful gases on burning which leads to air pollution
