Two Step Equations

by Darius Wilson

2

Coefficient- the number that is attached to the letter( Variable)

Here are some examples of coefficient.

  • 5x +10 =25

  • -2z - 12= 32

  • 7w + 14= 21

  • 15 - 30x = 45

  • .5= .2t + .8

3

Constant- the number that is on the same side as the coefficient, but does NOT have the letter attached.

  • 5x +10 =25

  • -2z - 12= 32

  • 7w + 14= 21

  • 15 - 30x = 45

  • .5= .2t + .8

Steps to Solve

  • S0... Split your equation in half.

  • S1... Eliminate the constant by doing the opposite operation on both sides of the equal sign to create a zero pair.

  • S2... Divide the coefficient on both sides to get your variable by it's self

  • Your goal is to get your variable by it's self.

Lets Practice.
