Literal vs Figurative
- It is used to mean exactly what it says.
- These are words that are used together in an imaginative way to mean something different from their usual meaning.

Similes and metaphors are used to compare two different things.
Similes use the words like or as
when comparing the two things.
Examples: The teacher is as busy as a bee,
the classroom is like a jungle, you were as brave as a lion.
Metaphors are also comparison, but they do not use the words like or as.
Examples: Her tears were a river flowing down her cheeks, the classroom was a jungle, life is a rollercoaster.

Simile and Metaphor allow the reader to think more and create a vivid picture on the mind. It also allows the writers to emphasize, exaggerate, and add interest to be more creative in using the words than using ordinary words.
