​- These are words that are used together in an imaginative way to mean something different from their usual meaning.

Similes and metaphors are used to compare two different things.

​Similes use the words like or as

when comparing the two things.

​Examples: The teacher is as busy as a bee,

the classroom is like a jungle, you were as brave as a lion.

  • Metaphors are also comparison, but they do not use the words like or as.

​Examples: Her tears were a river flowing down her cheeks, the classroom was a jungle, life is a rollercoaster.

Simile and Metaphor allow the reader to think more and create a vivid picture on the mind. It also allows the writers to emphasize, exaggerate, and add interest to be more creative in using the words than using ordinary words.
