Using coordinating conjunctions (F.A.N.B.O.Y.S.) to join TWO complete sentences.

When you join two sentences together with a comma and a coordinating conjunction, you form compound sentences!

For instance...

Independent Clause (IC) + comma + Coordinating Conjunction (CC) + Independent Clause (IC)

17

Remember...

  • Coordinating conjunctions always come between the words or clauses that they join.

  • When a coordinating conjunction joins independent clauses, it is always correct to place a comma before the conjunction:

18

For example:

[We love going to the beach]so [we try to go every weekend!]

* 1 IC + , + CC [so] + 2IC
