​Common nouns are nonspecific or generic nouns. They usually do not have a capital letter unless they begin a sentence. Ex: cat, train, girl, couch

​Abstract vs. Concrete Nouns

Abstract nouns are concepts or ideas that a person cannot see, hear, touch, taste, or smell. They tend to have the following suffixes: -tion, -ism, -ity, -ance, -ship, -ability, -acy, Ex: liberty, patriotism, reality

​Concrete nouns are nouns that you can feel, touch, smell, hear, and see (five senses). Ex: actor, chicken, cucumber, brick, mountain
