An injury produced by forcible contact or impact between a person and an object or piece of equipment.

**Not to be confused with a Caught-In object which is when a worker is caught inside or between different objects.

​Flying Hazards

Flying hazards come in many forms including flying bolts, pump components, and object propelled by compressed air, such as nails.

​Falling Hazards

When a source falls from a higher elevation to a lower level.

  • ​A worker struck by a load of wall panels that fell off his truck.

  • ​Crane cable broke causing boom to fall and hit four workers.

​Swinging Hazards

When materials are lifted, they have potential to swing and strike workers. Windy conditions are especially more hazardous because the load will swing.

​Rolling Hazards

Rolling, moving, sliding on the same level at which the worker is located. Any rolling equipment must be viewed as a potential hazard.

​Equipment and Vehicle Protection (Non-Operators)

  • ​Stay away from heavy equipment when it's operating.

  • ​Never work under a suspended load.

  • ​Confirm and receive acknowledgement from operators that they're visible.

  • ​Be aware of swing radius of cranes and backhoes and do not enter that zone.

  • Make sure all workers and other personnel are in the clear before dumping or lifting.​

  • ​Lower or Block buckets, blades, scrapers when not in use.

  • ​Do not exceed lifting capacity.
