Beginnings in Canaan and Egypt

  • The Hebrew Bible traces the Hebrews back to Abraham, who was told by God to leave Mesopotamia.

  • He did and settled in Canaan.

  • After a famine struck Canaan, the Hebrews’ descendants, the Israelites, ended up in Egypt and their population grew, causing the pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt, concern.
