Lewis Dot Structures
Gilbert Lewis found an easy way to illustrate bonding.
Gilbert Lewis, a chemistry professor, came up with the system of electron dot structures in 1902!
Bohr diagrams are too complete to illustrate and predict chemical bonds.
Lewis dot structures show ONLY valence electrons.
Lewis dot structures are useful in showing chemical bonding.
Gilbert Lewis
Fluorine has 7 valence electrons, and here you see 7 dots.
