What is sound?
Sound is a form of energy made by vibrations. When any object vibrates,
the air particles (molecules) around it start moving and bumping into
each other producing sound waves, which enter our ears and the brain
detects it as sound. The vibration of the air particles continues until the
particles run out of energy. When the sound waves bang against any solid
surface, they are reected back and an echo is produced. Sound requires
a medium to travel, like solid, liquid and gas. Sound cannot travel
through vacuum as there are no air particles present in it.

Different type of instruments
1. In wind instruments like the flute, clarinet, trumpet, vibrating air makes the sound. The air
particles move back and forth and sound waves are created. In stringed instruments, the
pressure of the fingers on the strings causes them to vibrate, making different sounds.

Different types of instruments
2.In the guitar the strings vibrate to produce the melodious music.
3. There are no strings in the drum, then where arethe sounds coming from?
It has no strings, but the tight leather sheet on the top vibrates to produce the loud sounds.
5
How are musical sounds produced?
Sound is caused by the simple but rapid mechanical vibrations of various elastic bodies. These when moved or struck so as to vibrate, communicate the same kind of vibrations to the auditory nerve of the ear, and are then appreciated by the mind.
