​Adding/Subtracting Decimals Checklist

• ​Estimate Answer

• ​Line up numbers using the decimal point.

• ​Fill in gaps with 0.

• ​Add like normal.

• ​Drop Decimal straight down.

• Compare with estimate.

​Adding/Subtracting Integers

• ​Same sign- add and keep the sign.

  • ​2.7 + 3.45 = 6.15

  • ​-3.72 + (-3) = -6.72

  • ​-4 - 4 = -8

• ​Different signs- subtract & keep the sign of the one you have more of.

  • ​-5 + 10 = 5

    • ​We have 5 negatives and ten positives . So the difference is 5. We have more positives than negatives so our answer is positive.
