What is a Literary Analysis?
A literary analysis carefully examines a text, or one element of a text, such as character, setting, plot, or theme of a story.
This week and next week, you will write a literary analysis to describe how a common theme is conveyed through the events of two different passages.
But first, let's take a look at an example.

Literary Analysis Example
Students write to two sources.
Sometimes, when writing a literary analysis, the writer will communicate an idea or ideas about two or more passages or sources.

Example Writing Prompt
The “Time Machine” and “A Future Paradise” are first-person accounts of characters who travel into the future and meet new and unusual creatures. Write an essay that explains how each narrator views the events and how their points of view influence the way they react to the events. Be sure to use details from both the passage and the poem.
