1. Exposition - the beginning of the story. includes the character and setting
2. conflict - the problem the main character(s) in the story faces
3. rising action - events that build onto the conflict
4. climax - the turning point of the story. Events start to turn around for the main character. Usually, a way of escape from the conflict is provided.
5. falling action - things begin to "fall" into place for the characters
6. resolution - the end of the story. The character's life returns to a sense of normal.
