nutrients: the part of food that our body can use for various purposes
balanced diet: a diet that contains all the nutrients in the correct amount
alimentary canal: this is the aprt of the digestive system through which food passes

Unlike plants, animals can't make their own food. So they need to consume other organisms.
What food an animal eats is called its diet. When a diet contains all the 7 nutrients in the correct amounts and proportions it's called a balanced diet. When food is digested it goes through the alimentary canal (this is the part of the digestive system through which food passes).
The 7 nutrients are:

Carbohydrates: Provides quick energy

Proteins: Used for making new cells, can also be used for energy.

Fats: Also provides energy, but is slower to break down than carbohydrates

Vitamins: Provides a wide variety of functions for the body. From helping the immune system to strengthening bones.

Minerals: Has a wide range of functions like vitamins, but are inorganic.

Regulates body temperature
Moistens tissues in the eyes, nose and mouth
Protects body organs and tissues
Carries nutrients and oxygen to cells
Lubricates joints
Lessens burden the on kidneys and liver by flushing out waste products
Helps dissolve minerals and nutrients to make them accessible to your body

In order to stay alive you need energy. To get that energy we eat food. The amount of energy you need depends on many different factors, length, age, gender, job, sport, etc.
