Commas in cities & states

​Example: "We live in Houston, TX."

​We use a comma when writing out a city and its state. The comma goes between the city & state. (REMEMBER: Capitalize the city & BOTH letters of the abbreviated state.)

Examples:

• ​We live in Houston, TX.

• ​I'm travelling to Los Angeles, CA.

• ​I am originally from Chicago, IL.

• ​He is visiting from Miami, FL.

Keep in mind... We should still apply the other comma rules that we've learned so far!

Introductory clauses... (Later that day, we went to the mall.)

​Transitions words... (However, I was exhausted!)

​Appositive phrases... (Ms. Garrison, my teacher friend, brought me Starbucks!)
