2
Day 1- 7 Properties of Matter
Matter- the substance of which all things are made of
Properties- the characteristics of a substance that help to clarify or identify it.
7 Properties of Matter:
Conductor
Insulator
Magnetism
Mass
Density (sink or float)
Physical State (solid, liquid, gas)
Solubility
3
Metals and non metals can be sorted by the properties of conductors and insulators.
Day 2- Properties of Metals vs Nonmetals
Conductor- material that allows
thermal or electrical energy to pass through it.
Insulator- material that does not allow thermal or electrical energy to pass through it easily.
4
5
Metals and non metals can be sorted by the properties of conductors and insulators.
Day 3- Mass and Density
Conductor- material that allows
thermal or electrical energy to pass through it.
Insulator- material that does not allow thermal or electrical energy to pass through it easily.
6
Mixtures
Mixture- is made up of 2 or more substances that are combined and can be separated again.
Mixtures can be a simple mixture (can be separated again) or a solutions (solvent disolves into a solute).
7
How to Classify Mixtures
Mixtures can be classified and separated by:
shape
color
size
mass
density
magnetism
solubility
8
9
10
Solution
Solutions- is a mixture of two or more substances that are evenly distributed.
Solutions are different than mixtures because they CAN'T be separated.
11
Liquid & Solid Solutions
Solutions are a mixture of two or more substances.
Only Soluable substances can dissolve into a liquid to create a solutions.
12
Liquid & Liquid Solutions
Liquid and Liquid solutions combine a solvent and a solution.
Solute- the substance that is dissolving.
Solvent- substance in which the solute is dissolved.
